Brittney Gardner, originally from Detroit, Michigan, holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Science in Accounting from Liberty University – so why Pilates? Brittney has always had a knack for moving her body, spending her formative years dabbling in dance, cheer, and gymnastics – all while excelling in academics. It was always very clear that Brittney would be a lifetime learner, coining herself a “Professional Student.”
She was introduced to Pilates in 2011 through her neighborhood gym, and quickly found herself taking every Pilates class offered at the gym. In 2016, she became a military spouse and moved to Virginia Beach, VA, where she continued her personal Pilates practice and toyed with the idea of becoming a certified Pilates instructor. She later welcomed two beautiful boys into the world, all while suffering from Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction during and after both pregnancies. The condition was debilitating at times and went undiagnosed, which catapulted Brittney into research and self-advocacy. Brittney landed in Physical Therapy to help manage the symptoms and was re-introduced to Pilates as a form of healing. It was the only movement that felt natural during postpartum recovery and helped Brittney feel centered within her body.
Brittney is currently a Pilates Apprentice at Pure Pilates, studying under Susan Clark. Her primary goal in teaching Pilates is to connect people to a form of movement that makes them more self-aware of their bodies and advocates for their overall wellbeing.
